What Is the Backpacks Plugin?

The Backpacks plugin gives every player an extra inventory you can open at any time. Think of it as a personal vault — separate from your main inventory. Stash gear, resources, loot, or anything else you want to keep safe and accessible.

All players start with 6 slots (1 row), but higher ranks unlock significantly more space — all the way up to 72 slots for Titan rank holders.

💡This is separate from the vanilla Rust backpack. Rust's wearable backpack is a physical item you wear on your back. This plugin backpack is a completely separate virtual inventory — they work alongside each other. Use both for maximum storage.

Vanilla vs Plugin Backpack

🎽 Vanilla Backpack
  • A physical item you wear on your back
  • Takes up the backpack clothing slot
  • Must be found or crafted
  • Can be looted off your body
  • Storage depends on the item tier
  • Drops on death with your body
🎒 Plugin Backpack
  • A virtual inventory — no item needed
  • Doesn't take up any equipment slot
  • Always available via command or GUI
  • Cannot be looted by other players
  • Storage depends on your rank
  • Contents persist across deaths
Use both together for the ultimate combo! Wear the vanilla backpack for quick-access overflow, and use the plugin backpack as your personal vault.

Chat Commands
/backpack
Open your backpack inventory. Run again to close it.
/backpackgui
Toggle the GUI button on/off. When enabled, a clickable backpack icon appears next to your hotbar.
Keybind Setup (F1 Console)
>bind b backpack.open
Press F1 to open the console, paste this, and hit Enter. Now B opens/closes your backpack. Change "b" to any key you prefer.
⚠️The keybind only needs to be set once — it saves to your Rust client settings. If you ever reset your Rust config you'll need to enter it again.

The GUI Button

When enabled, a small backpack icon appears next to your hotbar at the bottom of the screen. Click it to open or close your backpack — no need to type commands or use a keybind.

If you don't see the button, type /backpackgui in chat to toggle it on. The button stays on permanently — even through deaths and reconnects.

Tips & FAQ

In most cases your plugin backpack contents persist through death. During certain events like Raidable Bases, the server may force-drop your backpack contents as a lootable bag if you die inside the event zone.
No — the plugin backpack is personal. Other players cannot open or access it. It's your private storage.
Yes! They're completely independent. Wear the vanilla Rust backpack on your body for extra slots, and open the plugin backpack with /backpack for even more. Double the storage!
Generally no — backpack contents are wiped along with the map during a full server wipe. Check the wipe announcements for details.
Upgrade your rank! VIP gives 24, VIP+ gives 36, MVP unlocks 48, Fanatic 60, and Titan the full 72. Visit the Markiii-Rust Store to upgrade.
In most cases yes — you can open your backpack inside event zones like Abandoned Bases and Raidable Bases. Great for stashing loot mid-raid so you don't lose it if you go down.
